Today I am excited to announce that Design Studio 210 has its first contributor. Her name is Victoria Crawcour a graduate from Liverpool John Moores University with a degree in Interior Design. She works for a well-known office design company in UK where she spends her days designing creative offices. Lets welcome Victoria and hopefully you will find her writing as inspiring as me.

The most carefully considered office designs are always the most inspirational, as you can see in the beautiful headquarters of Inoui! A design studio created by the former Inoui duo themselves, Kyla and Amber now run separate studios (Kyla at Kyla Bidgood Interior Design and Amber at Mak Interiors).

The space offers a fantastic lesson in how to pair a minimal colour palette and layout with striking focal points, as illustrated in these fantastic photographs by Jen Steele. It’s no surprise that this project received a Silver Award of Design Excellence at the 2011 Interior Designers of Canada Shine Awards!

White brick walls and neutral storage solutions are offset by stunning accessories that don’t just pop with colour but marry beauty and functionality perfectly, which is one of the reasons this office is so striking. It effortlessly takes inspiration from a range of styles, pairing fun and vibrant desk chairs with more industrial, abstract metal lampshades and filament bulbs to create a space that screams creativity. Even the toilets are decorated with interesting pieces of wall art and colourful glass lampshades!

But perhaps the most impressive element of this workspace is the inspiration from designers and craftsmen of old. A towering yet elegant bookcase houses a range of publications that staff can turn to when creativity runs low, while in front of it lies a gorgeous table made from salvaged wood and flanked on all sides by bright, 70’s inspired chairs that add cheery energy to the room. Then there are the ingenious stairs. A truly unique design, they’re adorned with vintage joiners rulers that, when you take into consideration the old printed floor plans that decorate the walls, give you a real insight into the ethos and heritage inspiration running through this great space.

This really is my idea of the perfect office, but what about you? Do you love this modern take on years gone by?
