As I sent these beautiful photos, taken by Jason Strong, to Victoria, I realized that this was yet another office from a Scandinavian country. Next time I will make an effort to look a bit further and find some creative offices from other countries. Until then what do you think of this cool and sophisticated work place? -Anna Caroline

Some of the most creative offices around the world are also some of the simplest. While minimal office design might seem “boring” to some, it’s an enduring trend that acts as a blank canvas for other design elements around it.

Take Intrum Justitia, a credit management services company from Stockholm. Boasting a range of global offices and providing such an important service, it was crucial that their headquarters spoke volumes about their company.

Designed by leading architecture firm Tengbom, the office combines the forward-thinking, holistic and contemporary design elements while still maintaining a timeless atmosphere.

Storage solutions like the white bookshelf double up as a partition, avoiding clutter while still remaining unobtrusive. Hanging decorations that resemble willow tree branches dangle above it, creating an interesting focal point. Then there’s the flooring – a lovely neutral pattern that reminds me of a forest floor and compliments the green accents of the desks sat atop it. The whole office has a natural and refreshing atmosphere that’s sure to motivate the staff inside it.

This theme continues into the social areas and chill out zones. Ergonomic green chairs with cool mesh backs, a hard floor incorporating natural looking textures and large windows to maximise natural light all ensure comfort is a key factor. There are even partitions made up of rich green leaves around the dining area and beautiful terrariums hanging from the roof in communal areas.

It’s no surprise when you consider the effect that plants and flowers can have in the workplace. Studies show that the presence of just a few plants can reduce stress and increase the productivity of employees, and with the plants in the Intrum Justitia office looking so amazing, it’s no surprise that it’s such a great place to work.

While these touches take centre stage, the kitchen area, stairwell and meeting rooms are much more minimal. That doesn’t mean to say they aren’t as creative and stylish though.

The white walls and abundance of glass provide the perfect surface for light to bounce off of and make the space appear larger, while the same natural looking floor featured above prevents a 2 dimensional look. The company has also included a lovely piece of wall art incorporating brightly coloured leaves and stems. This is the perfect way to inject a splash of colour into a more minimal office without it overwhelming the space! It even extends onto the partitions of the meeting room, creating a fun area of interest without breaking up the continuity the glass affords.

In an industry like credit management it makes sense to work from an office that feels calming and comforting, yet still like it belongs to a professional company who will get the job done. I think Intrum Justitia’s office is the perfect example of a company getting this right. The natural look of their workspace makes them seem extremely approachable, while still painting them in an expert light.

What do you think of this creative office? Is the minimal trend one of your favourites?
