Places To Eat & Drink No.2 – Story in Helsinki

Another week and the travel bug could not be higher than it is over at the office today. Friends and family are already traveling and having their vacation. We have a few more weeks until we get to jump on the plane and fly to our beloved Scandinavia.
So for number two of our Places To Eat & Drink we had to include one of the latest projects of Scandinavian based Laajisto and her team. After all, the chances of us actually visiting Helsinki is much higher than finding our way to The Proud Archivist somewhere in the streets of London.
Happy indulging!

If you have looked through Pinterest or any other design blog for that matter, for example Yellowtrace, Retail Design Blog or DEKO. you have already spotted Story.
We can’t get enough of the color scheme and the interior. The structure of the building itself is gorgeous with its ample ceiling height but what I can’t stop looking at are all the details. Everywhere I turn there is something interesting to see – it sort of reminds me of the wording I used in the write up for David’s restaurant by Hecker Guthrie. The difference is that in this space I can’t stop staring at the breads, herbs and wines etc – the food! In fact, Story is situated in Helsinki’s Old Market Hall and the produces used for this restaurant are all ingredients found at the market hall and the market square.
This place oozes perfection and has that cool vibe to it. Surely the popular restaurateurs Anders Westerholm, Matti Sarkkinen, Teemu Aura and Markus Hurskainen will make this into a hip place to hang out.
Next time in Helsinki we will make sure to stop by this place to eat and drink while enjoying the environment.

Words from the design team:
Story’s interior gives homage to the original feel and history of the market hall, but placing it in a new time with a modern yet relaxed twist. The challenge was to get the high-ceilinged hall space to feel intimate, instead of a space to pass through. I believe we managed to grant Helsinki a space that has been missing from here. – Joanna Laajisto
