What is Luxury Minimal design?

The focus in this style is on balancing, quality details, thoughtful composition, simplicity, clean lines, and functionality.

The approach is on less is more – with a high focus on curated items that age well with time, and that also carry a special meaning whether functional or emotional.

The luxury bit is very much focused on – not so much bling – but more about the un-branded and more genuine quality aspect. Focus is also geared towards both practicality and sustainability.

Focusing on creating interior spaces with only the essentials that are of high value to you, creates meaningful interiors that you can thrive in. And that is also easy to maintain usually due to the less-is-more, aspect.

Having only the essentials in your interior setting is the new minimal luxury, which is the opposite of the Maximalism interior design style.

I am of course very inspired by this type of design thinking.

Let’s jump into the ideas on how you can get this style in your own home!

Luxury minimal design to me speaks volume about focusing on what matters and only bringing in items in your home and life that has true meaning and feels essential to you, therefor creating a minimal life of luxury and abundance!

Clean lines are your core for this type of style – try to keep clean lines while at the same time creating some interest through variations of how they are applied.

Play With Architectural Features

Play with architectural features that your space has, to create more interest in your Luxe minimalist interior design space.

If you have an incredible staircase to act as a feature point, beautiful large windows or beams in the ceiling, that is fantastic – make them shine!

With that being said the above might not be what the norm has in their flats, for example in a flat styling around Scandinavian interior design, making the window sill the feature could be one way of decorating for this style.

Invest in Lighting

Investing in good quality lighting that stands out and creates that minimal while interesting space is the right way to go.

Add stunning larger pieces of greenery plants to your space, whether this is indoor or outdoor.

This will create a natural feeling but also add a sense of luxury to your space.

If you have the option to have large windows in your space, then this is a great foundation piece to add into your design to give it that Luxe minimal style.

With that being said, the same idea can be incorporated into more budget-friendly apartments, by making sure that the windows are accentuated. Also make sure that you do not cover the windows with bulky material but allow more sheer material like linen, or leave window completely empty from window treatment for a more minimal feel.

Accentuate the Materials

Focus on adding a natural feeling to your space by adding, plants, branches, natural textures, wood, iron, brass, and so on.

Adding natural elements to your space will automatically give a focus to sustainability especially when combined with a more less is more approach and where focus is on the essentials, not on the masses.

Why is minimalism associated with luxury?

Having the bare essentials and focusing on investing in some key pieces is luxury. Having less – does not equal frugality anymore but the focus is on a few key items – that will help you to create a simplified environment in which you can thrive.

Do I need a big budget to create a minimal luxury interior style?

You do not need a big budget to create a minimal luxury interior style. The reason for this is that this style is not about bling, but focusing on the essentials and less-is-more.

Design your space with quality and composition in mind and invest in a few key pieces.

You could also look through thrift stores or check any handy-downs from your family that could also add to this style (and in a more budget-friendly way).

Since the focus is on less-is-more you will in the end need less money if used wisely than if you are into a Maximalism style.

Remember luxury does not equal how much money is spent.

But luxury is focusing on the essentials and using them in a nice composed way that creates a simplified living space – that is minimalist luxury interior design.

I recommend listening to the Minimalist podcast for more inspiration around the thinking on Minimalism.
