This week I am happy to introduce an artist I have been following for a while now. Canadian Karine Leger; a multi-talented artist who use both paintings and photography to express stories and emotions.
Stories and emotions are in fact what intrigues me about her work. Her paintings feel dramatic and simplistic. They make the perfect pieces for any feature wall! Even though she has been painting a much longer time than taking photos – It was her images that caught my attention. There is something so subtle and magical about them! Every time I gaze at her photos I feel as if I am being pulled in to them; to the scene; the emotion and the present moment of when that photo was taken.
I’ve been obsessed with double exposure for a while now. It’s like i can’t take just a normal picture anymore. – Karine
Believe it or not Karine talks about herself as not a photographer. She is an artist which paints who has a passion for photography and often starts her painting process with researching photographs she has taken. The two forms interlace each other and is part of her artistic expression.
Want to learn more about Christina? See below what she tells us about inspiration and her style:
Where do you find inspiration to your art?
I am mostly inspired by nature. Its forms and texture, vast landscapes, empty spaces, autumn and winter, and just recently, rocks.
How would you define your style?
I feel my paintings are a continuity of my research with photography. I have begun to know myself better through minimalist abstract painting which evokes these landscapes.
