Creativity, ‘the use of imagination or original ideas to create something; inventiveness’…that’s how a definition for the word creativity reads.

Well to me creativity does not only go for the innovation of things but is also a concept of having the free spirit of feeling that one can create something with its own imagination and mindset. A creative home, is for me vital for a fulfilled life and home environment. A creative home does not necessary mean that the most perfect vignettes have been made or that it is picture perfect, but it is that feeling of having the tools there if one wishes to create something. Intentionally keeping some walls bare just in case some art needs to go there or keeping areas ‘undone’ or with the option to be changed is a way to encourage the curiosity in creating.

With the holiday seasons here it is usually that time when I have some time to arrange or work on some projects around the apartment. Some which have been waiting to be finished for some time…like that rust lamp holder, bought in Sweden last visit, that I intended to arrange in a nice vignette on the dresser in the hallway, or the wood sculptures which we picked up in a design shop in Helsinki which also needs to find its home in the apartment. Or organizing our book case so it does not look so cluttered – inspiriation for this comes from Therese Senneholt’s apartment seen in this post here. Projects like these throughout the year is, together with the blog things that keeps me creative…

How To Design A Creative Home List ///

– Keep scraps of papers that you like in a box. Once in a while look in this box…maybe you can make art out of it?
– View your home with this in mind – imperfection makes perfect. Keeping it in an imperfect way makes you constantly having a free mind to create.
– Understand what makes you feel creative in order to live a creative life.
– Keep open minded to where your creativity comes from.
– Try to keep a balance between clutter and organization. Creative minds tends to like somewhat cluttered areas in an organized way.
