So we are moving house in a few months which brings me to think of if we want to have that ‘picture perfect’ home or if the decoration should take its form after we have lived in the space for a bit. What would you prefer? Personally I am a bit torn in regards of this topic…
Of course as an aspiring designer I see the benefits in designing a ‘picture perfect’ or ready designed space from the gecko, since this allows for less stress and a better organization both in regards of practicality and aesthetics.
Take a look at this home designed by Clare Cousins from Australia. They have done an impeccable work and everywhere you turn it seems like no corner is left for later. I would for sure not mind going into a home already properly planned out and decorated like this one. By planning out all the desired and needed elements one guarantees a better visual flow. As an example in this space yellow was used, both in furniture and in other decorative objects, as to create rhythm between the spaces.
On the other hand there is a genuine appeal to having a home ‘undone’ and left to be decorated later on as time goes by. This creates an organic and natural feel that is something I am also in favor of. It would allow room for growth and for us to ‘live in’ the space as to figure out what functions are needed. It would also let us slowly finding those pieces that makes a home, our home.

Well, I am still undecided on which I prefer but writing this blog post helped me to clear some things out. The aim will be to balance the two different concepts mentioned here, hence we will focus on creating a functional designed space where a relaxed approach was taken to getting everything right down to the detail.
