Let me introduce you to HSB – the largest housing organisation in Sweden shot by our talented photographer friend – and guest on the blog before – Jason Strong.

What caught my interest with this project is the gorgeously designed atrium with its high ceiling – the light it emits – and the incorporated greenary. And…hold on, this area is actually the lunch room and part of the staff kitchen! Imagine the relaxed and serene feel one would get from enjoying a cup of coffee with the co-workers during break. Yeah – this is a place which sees the importance in vitality for its employees.

The extended ceiling height gives the Stockholm office a -we are the largest of our type of business- feel. Above one can also see lovely pendant lights which feel whimsical and resemble birds and its nests.

Flowers are incorporated in the interior – creating a courtyard feel – injecting colour and increasing both physical and psychologically benefits for its occupants as many studies have shown.

Organic painted shapes and the injection of green connects the waiting area to the green plants in the atrium.

Even though the atrium – and the greenery was what stood out to me, the rest of the interior – and its cheerful colours and patterns also caught my attention. Some of the colours have been incorporated as to support the branding of the housing organisation, others might have been chosen depending on job task/room in mind.

Interesting also is how well PS Arkitektur – the architect/design team – managed to incorporate a homey feel in the interior by using plenty of textiles, patterns and textures throughout.

Blue is part of HSB’s branding colours and have been used throughout different areas of the office design. The design team have cleverly allocated blue in meeting rooms as it conveys a feeling of honesty, loyalty and wisdom amongst some.

Plenty of rich patterns and textiles creates a homey feel not often associated to office interiors. While this adds a nice feeling for the employees it also avoids any business meeting in here from being stiff and mundane.

Wrapped around light fabrics is a casual seating arrangement in yellow. By adding yellow the designers not only incorporated another colour known to the company, but also injected a colour which improves productivity and energy; perfect in a casual place like this.

It seems that every turn you take in this office there is something interesting to look at. Whether it is the organic plants, or the change of colour which takes place from space to space or the interesting story told through the different patterns or objects placed around.

What they all have in common is that they are placed in this creative office to reinforce that they are a housing organisation. All of which were executed in a contemporary manner. We like!

Cute little houses are paraded on the window sill.

A yellow box adds a little creative detail to the otherwise ‘normal’ looking kitchen.
