Have you heard of artist and graphic designer Evelin Kasikov? She is a skilled contemporary artist who mixes hand stitching with graphic design and typography. She is constantly experimenting with different type and stitch combination and has a strong passion for letterforms. We can tell that! Evelin’s art is in my opinion one of those pieces that you will always remember. They stand out amongst the crowd! No wonder they have been featured in many magazines, blogs and exhibitions.

There is a playful feel to her pieces that I enjoy. But there is also a more strictness that comes through the shape of every single stitch, this gives it a more structured and mature feel. I asked Evelin where she finds inspiration to her work. And she told me, like the other creatives I have asked, that it is very difficult to define where inspiration comes from as it could happen anywhere and anytime.

“When I’m super busy I usually get lots of new ideas. Every piece of work always starts with lots of ‘what if?’ ideas. The right idea has to click, somehow I always know if it works or not. I guess it’s about instinct and maybe experience.” – Evelin Kasikov

I draw plenty of inspiration looking at her pieces and the way she went about combining a historical craft form with modern graphic design. ‘Graphic embroidery’ is in fact how she defines her own style and work, but she stresses that the emphasize is on the graphical part and not on the craft of stitching. The stitching for her is simply another way of creating an image.

The pieces which are shown here belongs to the London Triology project. If you are interested in seeing more projects of hers you can do so on her portfolio. She also sells some pieces in her webshop. Let me know if you purchased her art and hanged it ‘on your wall’.
